He knew exactly what he was doing got the roots out and power snaked the drain clear, no fuss. He also fixed a loose toilet flange for us, reinstalled the toilet with a new wax ring, and double-checked everything for leaks before wrapping up.

Why do Toronto homes experience so many drain problems in spring and fall?

Toronto’s freeze-thaw cycle is hard on underground pipes. Ground movement through winter shifts and cracks aging clay and cast iron lines, and by spring those small defects start catching debris. How does hard water affect plumbing in Toronto?

Toronto draws its water from Lake Ontario, which is moderately hard, typically around 120 mg/L, or roughly 7 grains per gallon. It’s safe to drink, but the dissolved calcium and magnesium leave scale behind. Over time that scale narrows pipes and reduces water pressure, builds up on the heating element of your water heater and drives energy costs up while shortening its lifespan, clogs faucet aerators and shower heads, leaves spotting on fixtures and glassware, and wears out valves and cartridges faster than they should.
